8 Companies Doing Sustainability Right
Sustainability has become crucial to many companies’ core values due to a global push to fight the climate crisis. Consumers want sustainability and they want companies to value it as well. According to Edelman’s Trustbarometer 2021, 86% of people agree that CEOs - and in turn their companies - must lead on societal issues.
There are plenty of companies that are currently introducing green initiatives into their production process, shipping methods, or simply funding them. We’re bringing you eight companies that have great ways of going green and making the planet better, one step at a time.
1. Apple
Apple is paving the way for many technology companies by introducing recycled materials into their production process. Their current project focuses on using completely recycled or renewable materials for their products.
This is not the only way they’ve changed their process as they have also partnered with 23 different companies that are using 100% renewable energy to produce Apple products. This has also lowered their emissions, specifically in aluminum use, by 83%. In terms of shipping and transportation, Apple saw a fall of 3% for their transport emissions in 2017. One of our favorite Apple initiatives is having customers return their old products when purchasing new ones!
2. IKEA
IKEA’s green initiatives help people reduce their waste such as energy and water use by designing special sinks. They have also focused on using sustainable materials and suppliers, having 100% of their cotton and 77% of their wood come from environmentally friendly places. They have changed their production process to track and manage waste, energy, and materials.
Plus, they are aiming to recycle 91% of their waste!
3. Johnson & Johnson
While they are dedicated to using sustainable materials to create sustainable products, we have them on their list because of their excellent sustainable shipping and transportation process.
Throughout production and transportation, Johnson & Johnson have created sustainable processes to reduce waste. Their shipping and packaging methods have helped with this reduction as well as their use of hybrid vehicles to reduce transport emissions.
4. eBay
Through their eco initiative, eBay has made it easy for people to exchange, reuse, and repurpose old items. Instead of throwing them away, customers can sell and buy used products, keeping them in use and lengthening their lifespan.
They are currently partnering with the United States Postal Service to ensure that their shipping is sustainable and eco friendly. Plus their packaging is completely environmentally friendly – even to the point where it’s been certified!
5. DIG
DIG is bringing sustainability to the food sector. They bring together different chefs, suppliers, and other creators in the food industry to “rebuild” the food system. DIG provides both sustainably sourced food, as well as lessons for their customers on how they can bring sustainable cooking into their lives.
By working with local farmers, they are supporting communities and investing in quality, eco-friendly ingredients. They have great plans on how to reduce waste by using the entire vegetable in their cooking. Plus they use the “ugly vegetables'' that would have been thrown away in their meals!
6. Anheuser-Busch
This company has an incredible sustainable production process. From their suppliers, to their packaging, to their transport, they find the most sustainable and efficient ways.
They want to protect the environment while serving their customers the best product they can. They are currently working on reducing their water usage and using recycled material for their packaging to reduce their carbon emissions.
7. Lyft
For a company that focuses on transportation, Lyft does an amazing job of managing their carbon emissions, as well as encouraging their customers to use more sustainable options.
They have plenty of electric vehicles available, plus they offer bikes! By 2030 they hope to go 100% electric to reduce carbon emissions. The company has reduced the need for personal cars by 9 million, while supporting public transport and providing lower carbon emission modes of transport.
8. Patagonia
Last but not least on this list is Patagonia. This brand is on everyone’s list of sustainable companies. They have made great strides in creating an eco-friendly brand and are often referred to as the most sustainable clothing brand. Right now, Patagonia plans to be carbon neutral by 2025 by creating a completely sustainable production process.
They will implement the use of renewable energy, specifically solar energy, and use sustainable, raw materials for their products. The company also has an initiative to teach customers how to fix their clothing instead of throwing it out – or they’ll even fix it for you; even if it isn’t from their brand! How cool is that?
